Aztec Solar is a photovoltaic solar home installation company serving home-owners to move their entire energy consumption off-the-grid.
A key objective in coming up with the identity system for Aztec Solar was not making the obvious choice of using images or symbols of the sun. Rather, we wanted to show what can be produced with solar energy in alignment with the benefits of the brand.
We chose to use imagery of plants as they represent what is produced from the light of the sun. We specifically used the Arrowhead Vine as it is native to the forests of Latin America—the region of the Aztec Empire.
The typography for the logo was created to allude to ancient Aztec culture; while the letterform "A" is made to represent the temples which were built in celebration of the sun.
